Silver Mallard Calls
New for 2025! Silver Mallard calls. These birds are from a 3 year project of downsizing wild silver mallards. They are NOT Aztecs! Remember all calls are descended from the wild mallard.
I have been doing my research on the bantam birds out there that are being advertised as "Aztecs". Detailed explanation below.
Silver (also called Lavendar in Europe) follows the same rules as Blue, Black, Splash in chickens. Silver is a color and there are several patterns possible including Bibbed, Magpie, and Splash.
Here's a couple of comparison photos with these birds, a pair of small Butterscotch and next to a full size Silver Mallard Drake
Here's the standard wild mallard we are all used to seeing. But wild mallards also can be blue fawn, snowy and silver.
The birds that I am working with are derived from wild silver mallard and they breed just like The Blue Fawn and Pastel call ducks. Mine have been bred to gray (also called mallard) call ducks and will continue to be for type. These are blue based and breed the same as Pastel Calls. I made a chart to demonstrate
Aztec Ducks
Unfortunately there isn't much on the web about the bantam duck breed Aztecs. In 1983 Dave Holderread developed them to be a 2-2.5lb bantam duck. They look totally different from Silver Mallards and only come in 2 colors. Blue Pearl and porcelain.
There is one website that I found with great information on the breed and lots of pics.
Aztec Call Ducks
There is another website that has other birds that they call Aztec Call Ducks. They look similiar to what I have but there mode of inheritance is totally different than the ones I am working with.

I am really excited to work with these beautiful birds. Limited availability for 2025
